One of the most asked client questions I get is, “What should we wear” For a newborn session, keeping it simple is key.
A good rule of thumb for At-Home Sessions is to stick with neutrals! Sure, throw in a soft blue, sage green or a muted pink. I love that! But stick with muted shades, and the neutrals will ensure your images are timeless.
Softer natural tones always look lovely for a newborn shoot, and keeping it simple is key for a newborn session. A newborn shoot is obviously all about celebrating your baby, but it’s also about capturing the connection you and your family have. Coordinating your outfits shows that you are a group, a family, and belong together. Saying that doesn’t mean everyone should match. Instead, think about the style of clothes and coordinate that. Choose colours that complement each other.
Wearing soft, natural clothes will give such a lovely softness to your images. Simple knitted outfits always look so beautiful on babies.
To get the most out of your photography session, avoid wearing black, It shows every piece of lint that might sneak onto your clothing and will then show up in photos. Big logos should also be avoided on clothing. It takes away from the point of the photos, which is to show the connection and love between your family.
Saying all that, the most important factor in all of this is that you feel comfortable and confident. When we look back at photos, we are transported straight back in time to how you felt in that moment. I want you to feel the love and connection with your baby, not that you felt uncomfortable.
I hope you have found this helpful!
